Software Development

THE COMPANY: A medium-sized, second-tier automotive supplier.

THE PROBLEM: Every week the company’s clerical personnel were spending many hours keying Material Release data into their manufacturing and inventory control software. Although they had purchased a sophisticated package to track their materials and finished products, it did not have an EDI interface. One customer alone was sending them 2000+ weekly releases weekly via EDI, but the supplier was enjoying few benefits because of the re-keying necessary.

THE SOLUTION: The supplier asked The EDI Source to develop an EDI interface to allow material releases to be loaded directly into their manufacturing and inventory control software. By working cooperatively with the supplier, the manufacturing customer, and the software vendor, The EDI Source defined and coded a simple application to interpret incoming X12 releases, extract the applicable information and write it to the complex databases of the vendor’s software. This application has now been in reliable production for over four years, with periodic enhancements.
